Municipally Significant Event Designation

As part of the Special Occasion Permit through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, for a public event, the event may require a municipal resolution to be deemed 'Municipally Significant' by Clarington's Municipal Clerk Division.

Municipally Significant events include:

  • Historical events, e.g. fairs
  • Community events, e.g. events that promote community connection
  • Economic spinoff events, e.g. events that bring visitors to Clarington and encourage spending in the local economy.
  • Recognition events, e.g. award ceremonies
  • Fundrasiers

Once you submit your request for Municipally Significant Event Designation, someone from the Municipal Clerk's Division will contact you within two business days. Approved events will receive an email with a link to pay the $50+HST fee. Once paid, you will receive a letter that you should include with your liquor licence application. If your event is denied a Municipally Significant Event Designation, you will receive an email outlining the reasons why the application was denied.
