Property Standards Appeal Form

Clarington's property standards by-law regulates items of safety and general upkeep of properties and buildings. If a property does not conform to the by-law, a Property Standards Officer may investigate to determine if the property standards by-law has been violated. If so, a Property Standards Order is issued to the owner. Orders are issued for violations of certain Ontario Building Code and municipal by-law standards for residential, multiple residential and commercial properties.

If a property owner disagrees with the order or a portion of the order, they may appeal to the Property Standards Committee using the form below. The Committee will conduct a public hearing to address the appeal, make decisions to confirm, modify and rescind the order to demolish or repair, or extend the time for complying with the order.

Appeal process

  1. Fill out the form below to request an appeal.
Note: There are deadlines to apply to appeal, and if the deadline has passed, your request for appeal will be denied.
  2. Staff will review your request to appeal. If approved, payment of $100 is due before the deadline listed on the Order. Upon attendance before the Property Standards Committee, half of the payment will be refunded.
